Overview

BBC Worldwide is the commercial arm of the BBC and is responsible for taking shows such as Doctor Who, Top Gear, BBC Earth and CBeebies to households across the globe. From their London base, they oversee the publishing and management of their global sites.

The challenge was not only to streamline workflows and user experiences, but also to maintain the highest level of brand quality, ensure scalability for future growth, and deliver consistency across multiple regions and markets.

Design Highlights

Modular

A modular system was introduced to allow website editors to easily upload and manage content. To ensure visual consistency, an automated focal point tool was created to centralise images — maintaining balance, clarity, and brand quality without the need for manual adjustments.




TV Guide

The TV Guide was one of the most frequently visited areas of the site, so a highly intuitive module was designed to make browsing schedules simple and engaging. Clear typography established hierarchy, while the layout prioritised clarity—allowing users to quickly find shows of interest without friction.


Homepage

The BBC Worldwide homepage served as a gateway for customers to explore new shows while keeping up to date with the ones they already loved.



Editorial Style

The prototype enabled engineers to build animations that reflected an editorial magazine feel—striking visuals, layered storytelling, and engaging typography that reinforced the brand voice.




Mobile Experience






Results

The solution enabled the successful launch of hundreds of websites across regions and brands —  including Doctor Who, BBC Earth, BBC iPlayer, and CBeebies. Even years later, more than 50 remain live, demonstrating the system’s scalability, durability, and long-term value.

My Role
I designed the platform and websites to be intuitive for business users and easy to navigate for audiences.
Created a library of responsive, modules adaptable to any BBC channel or show (Doctor Who, BBC Earth, Top Gear etc).
Worked closely with engineers and BBC London stakeholders to ensure high-quality design.
